cantus_apparatus pt.2

4 Sep

Well, I’ve had enough of Supercollider for one day. I’m stuck on how to get my program to respond to midi data (I need James Harkins brain downloaded into mine).

Even though my brain is frazzled for one day I thought I would post a little video of the cantus apparatus in action (the sound may be bad due to this being captured on a iPod as is the film work).

cantus_apparatus

For ages  I have been trying to find a project to make some software in SuperCollider.

I have finally come up with one.  The cantus_apparatus.

The cantus_apparatus will be a small piece of software that will go a long way to minimising my current setup with the mighty Orlando Ferguson. Our next gig is on Nov 6th at Hogwash  #10 here in Leeds. This gives me a nice deadline to have some working software to gig with.

Here is a screen grab of how it looks atm

Screen shot 2013-09-02 at 18.48.26

This is my first step into building software with with code so I’m sure it will be fraught with errors, hair loss and sleepless nights. I have no doubt that i will be living on the SCList and annoying many  users with dumb questions.

I will post audio, images and video as the project progresses.

Wish me luck.

Weather Report

30 Jul

Whilst clearing out my external hard drive I came across an old project that I created for part of my final piece for my Access to Art and Design show at Leeds College of Art. The piece is a two channel sonic installation that collated weather data (temperature and rainfall) from the Headingley area of Leeds over a six month period from the sixties.

The audio was created using a patch I had built in the software Bidule by Plogue

The audio is a one hour extract from a 4 hour recording. Unfortunatly the track is split into 3 due to Bandcamp limitations but these limitations go away if I make over a certain amount so if you give generously I will hopefully be able to upload it in all its glory.

I thought I would upload it to Bandcamp and make it downloadable for the princely sum of £3 (just one quid a track, not bad for a whole weeks worth of data entry).

Breaking Germany

29 Apr

Image

Some kind people let me play music on a computer from scratch at their gigs. These people go under the name Algorave.

The first one I played on a boat in London. I say boat, it was more of an ex-East German fishing vessel.

The second one was in a backstreet club in Karlsruhe, Germany.

I think I broke Germany, I can’t be sure, but I hope they invite me back to break it some more.

Orlando Ferguson’ Map of the Square and Stationary Earth

27 Mar

During one slow, Sunday snowstorm whipped up by the furious wrath of Mother Nature herself, the spirit of the late orlando Ferguson channeled down through the ether into the minds and souls of two musicians. The spirit took over and made noise that only the spirit of Orlando Ferguson could. The musicians were fortunate enough to hit record on their puny field recorders and document the following proceedings before the spirit of Ferguson took their minds and bodies on a trip that would change them forever.

You, as a listener are fortunate enough to be able to bear witness to the holy sounds brought down from the other realm where Orlando Ferguson’s spirit walks.
